The sheep

Le mouton

This is why our ‘whole date flour’ product can be used as a food supplement. It is characterised by a high energy source through the date pulp, which provides rapid energy in the form of carbohydrates, while the pits provide fat.

Recommended quantity:

* it is recommended to include 10 to 20% crushed dates in the total ration

* In daily quantities, this corresponds  to approximately 200 to 500g per adult sheep

*for fattening lambs, between 100 and 300g per day can be given, depending on their weight and stage of growth

Precautions:

1/ Gradual introduction: Add the dates gradually over 7 to 10 days to avoid ruminal acidosis

2/ Balance the ration:

Combine dates with source of protein (soybean meal, alfalfa) and fiber (hay, straw) to avoid nutritional imbalances

3/ Monitoring digestive disorders: too many fermentable sugars can cause bloating and acidosis.

Example of daily ration with dates (for an adult sheep weighing 50-60kg):

  • 300g crushed dates
  • 500g of wheat or barley bran
  • 300g soybean or alfalfa meal
  • 1 to 1.5kg of hay or straw
  • suitable minerals and vitamins
